Dodging the RoadkillPensacola, Fla — While on a recent trip to the Gulf, we decided to ride into Pensacola for dinner.  McGuire’s Irish Pub has always been a favorite for us.  I figure if we keep going, we’ll be able to count ALL of the money hanging from the ceiling eventually.

McGuire’s is located in the heart of Pensacola on Gregory Street, not far from the baseball stadium and offers the opportunity to walk the downtown area of Pensacola, which has LOADS of personality.  In fact they make it clear that you can enjoy, “feasting, embibery and debauchery.”

On this night, we were greeted by “Piper Terry” who was serenading patrons in the parking lot with his mastery of the bagpipes.  This is the first time we’ve seen this, but there is a complete bagpipe band that appears at the restaurant regularly.

Terry told me he’s retired and living in the area and “couldn’t be happier.”  He also said that it takes years to master the “pipes” and is something that you’re just led to do and typically, it’s handed down to you from your family history.

One of the “pipers” told us that his pipes cost $10,000.  WOW!  That’s a love for your instrument.

The restaurant itself is an interesting layout.  You can choose to sit in the bar, or one of their cozy dining areas located throughout.  The service is excellent and the menu choices are straight out of Ireland.

For drinks, you must try the Irish Wake.  You can keep the mason jar it comes in.  I think just one of these will do the trick, but you know your limits.  Just be careful!

Oh, and speaking of being careful, let me know if you go to the correct restroom while you’re there and be sure to kiss the moose! (it’s not in the restroom, so don’t let your dirty mind wander).

They’re known for their burgers and steaks and of course Shepherd’s Pie, which is some of the best I’ve ever tasted.

I could eat there time and time again and never finish the menu.  There’s something for everyone at McGuire’s Irish Pub.  Make sure when you’re in Pensacola, or Destin Florida, you put McGuire’s Irish Pub on your list of restaurants to visit.
